Chenille Yarn Challenge
Often times when I am scrolling on Facebook, there is one common question I hear a lot. That question is, what is the size difference between different plush yarns?
I put 16 different plush yarns to the challenge.
The yarns I used:
From Michaels-
Sweet Snuggles Lite (Weight 6) – Daffodil and White
Sweet Snuggles (Weight 7) – Mint and Lavender
Chenille Home (Weight 7) – Skyway and Country Blue
Chenille Home Slim (Weight 6) – White and Navy Tweed
Loops and Threads Royal Velvet (Weight 7) – Blush and Mint
From Joann Stores-
Lion Brand Nap Time (Weight 4) – Lilac and Pale Aqua
Big Twist Plush (Weight 6) – Strawberry Sherbet and Lavendula
Bernat Baby Blanket (Weight 6) – Crocus Faerie (Dappled Yarn) and Seafoam (Sparkle)
Bernat Blanket Extra (Weight 7) – Burnt Rose and Blush Pink
Bernat Velvet (Weight 5) – Indigo and Softened Blue
Bernat Baby Velvet (Weight 4) – Ever After Pink and Potpourri
From Premier Yarns-
Parfait – the original, which has now been discontinued – (Weight 5) – Light Pink and Peach (not sure of the color names)
Parfait Chunky (Weight 6) – Ballet Pink and Bubblegum
Parfait XL (Weight 7) – Fairy Pink and Petunia
Pixie Dust Brights (Weight 4) – Fairy Pink and Periwinkle
From Hobbii Yarns-
Baby Snuggles (Weight 6) – Turquoise and Yellow (Print) and Baby Duck (Solid)
All the axolotls came out a little different in size, but some were only different by just a little bit. I was surprised to see some of the bigger differences between a couple of the yarns. I wasn’t expecting Bernat Blanket Extra to come out so big even using a 7 mm hook, which I used for all of the weight 7 yarns. I found that Sweet Snuggles, Parfait XL and Chenille Home were all very close in final size. There wasn’t too much of a difference.
I used a 6 mm hook with Chenille Home Slim and Sweet Snuggles Lite compared to a 5.5 mm hook that I used with Parfait Chunky. I find that Parfait Chunky is a bit smaller than Chenille Home Slim and Sweet Snuggles Lite.
Bernat Baby Velvet I used a 4 mm hook where as Lion Brand Nap Time I used a 3.75. I found that Nap Time was thinner than Bernat Baby Velvet even though they were the same yarn weight.
I am so glad that I took this challenge on and it was a definite success!!
I hope you enjoy seeing the axolotls in all the different yarns.
