Chester the Chick – Free Pattern

Chester the Chick uses a 4.5 mm hook. I used Go Handmade, Happy Chunky “fine” yarn. When using the recommended hook size, yarn and yarn under (x stitch), it measures 3 inches/7.62 centimeters.

Other materials needed are:

• Polyfill stuffing
• 15 mm safety eyes
• Thin orange yarn

Some of the skills used in this pattern are chain, slip stitch, single crochet, increase, decrease, and finish off. The pattern includes complete assembly details with pictures.

Body

Use Yellow. Stuff as you go.

Round 1: 6 sc in MR. [6]

Round 2: (inc) x 6. [12]

Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6. [18]

Round 4: sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, sc. [24]

Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6. [30]

Round 6: 2 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x 5, 2 sc. [36]

Round 7: (5 sc, inc) x 6. [42]

Round 8: 3 sc, inc, (6 sc, inc) x 5, 3 sc. [48]

Rounds 9-18: 48 sc. [48] (10 rounds)

Insert eyes between rounds 13 and 14 with 7 visible stitches in between.

Round 19: 3 sc, dec, (6 sc, dec) x 5, 3 sc. [42]

Round 20: (5 sc, dec) x 6. [36]

Round 21: 2 sc, dec, (4 sc, dec) x 5, 2 sc. [30]

Round 22: (3 sc, dec) x 6. [24]

Round 23: sc, dec, (2 sc, dec) x 5, sc. [18]

Round 24: (sc, dec) x 6. [12]

Round 25: (dec) x 6. [6]

Cut yarn and weave end through the remaining front loops. Pull tight to close and weave in end.

Feet

Use Orange, make 2. The feet are not stuffed.

Round 1: Ch 5, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, 3 sc, 3sc in the last ch. Move to the other side of the ch, 2 sc, inc. [10]

Round 2: inc, 2 sc, (inc) x 3, 2 sc, (inc) x 2. [16]

Rounds 3-5: 16 sc. [16] (3 rounds)

Round 6: (2 sc, dec) x 4. [12]

Round 7: 12 sc. [12]

Round 8: sc (adjust as needed to get to the side of the foot, flatten and 6 sc across. [6]

Cut yarn, leave a tail for sewing. Sew the feet right above the last round on a slight angle.

Wings

Use Yellow, make 2.

Round 1: 6 sc in MR. [6]

Round 2: (inc) x 6. [12]

Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6. [18]

Round 4: sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, sc. [24]

Round 5: (Partial round), hdc, 4 dc, hdc, sl st. [6]

Cut yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew between rounds 12 and 18, only around the edges, leave the stitches you did in round 5 not sewn. (picture 4)

Embroider a nose with orange yarn and add some hair to the top of Chester’s head.
