Materials
Materials needed to create the toy in order to replicate my toy:
- Crochet hook size: 9 mm hook
- Yarn used: Bernat Baby Blanket Sparkle (Rose Glow Sparkle- used 4.1 ounces/116 grams/85 yards), Bernat Baby Blanket (Seafoam- Used 2.4 ounces/68 grams/50 yards)
- Stuffing
- Measuring tape/ruler
- Button
- Darning needle
- Stitch marker (optional)
Abbreviations
- MR – magic ring
- ch – chain
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- dc inc – double crochet increase
- inc – increase
- (…) – Repeat the instruction inside these brackets the given number of times.
- […] – Total number of stitches at the end of the round.
Gauge
4 x 4 inch square= 4 rows tall/8 dc (double crochet) sts across.
10 x 10 cm square= 4 rows tall/8 dc (double crochet) sts across.
Pattern Notes:
- Bag is worked in joined rounds unless noted otherwise.
- The chains you make at the start of each round/row do not count as a stitch. Work your first stitch into the same stitch as your chain.
- Please read through the whole pattern before you get started.
- All photos are at the end of the pattern.
Bag
Use Rose Glow Sparkle.
Join each round with a sl st.
Round 1: In MR, ch 2, 12 hdc in MR. Join and ch 2. [12]
Round 2: hdc inc, (dc inc) x 4, (hdc inc) x 2, (dc inc) x 4, hdc inc. Join and ch 3. [24]
Round 3: (dc, dc inc) x 12. Join and ch 3. [36]
Round 4: (2 dc, dc inc) x 12. Join and ch 3. [48]
Rounds 5-10: 48 dc. Join and ch 3. [48] (6 rounds)
Round 11: 48 dc. Join with a sl st. [48]
Mark stitches 12 and 38 (a total of 24 stitches that you’ll be working into in the back of the bag).
Cut yarn and weave in end.
At this point my bag measures 9 inches/23 centimeters
Bag Flap
Use Seafoam. You will be working in rows.
Row 1: Join your yarn in stitch 38 that you marked and ch 1. Make a sc in each of the 24 stitches. Ch 1 and turn. [24]
Rows 2-5: 24 sc. Ch 1 and turn. [24] (4 rows)
Row 6: dec, 20 sc, dec. Ch 1 and turn. [22]
Rows 7-8: 22 sc. Ch 1 and turn. [22] (2 rows)
Row 9: sc, hdc, 9 dc, ch 1 (this will be your button hole), 9 dc, hdc, sc. [22 plus 1 ch]
Cut yarn and weave in ends.
Sew a button on your bag between the stitches in round 8.
Finished flap is 4.5 inches/11.4 centimeters long.
Straps- Make 2
Use Seafoam. Leave a long starting tail for each strap.
Row 1: Ch 5, starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, 3 dc. Ch 2 and turn. [3]
Rows 2-20: 3 dc. Ch 2 and turn. [3] (19 rows)
Row 21: 3 dc. [3]
Finished strap length is approximately 18 inches/46 centimeters. Adjust strap length as needed.
Cut yarn and leave a tail for sewing.
Sew the straps onto the back of the bag on each side between rounds 4 and 11.
Crown
Use Sunshine Sparkle.
Row 1: Ch 9, starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, 7 hdc. Ch 1 and turn. [7]
Row 2: sc, dc, (ch 3, sl st in the 3rd ch from the hook), dc in the same stitch, sc, hdc, (ch 2, sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook), hdc in the same stitch, sc, dc, (ch 3, sl st in the 3rd ch from the hook), dc in the same stitch, sc. [8]
Cut yarn and leave a tail for sewing.
Sew the crown onto the flap between rows 7 and 8.
Finished crown size is approximately 4 inches/10 centimeters wide.
