
Zippy the Penguin – Free Pattern
Zippy the Penguin uses a 3 mm hook and Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 yarn. When using the recommended hook size, yarn and yarn under (x stitch), he measures 5 inches/12.7 centimeters.
Other materials needed are:
- 6 mm safety eyes
- Pom Pom
- Polyfill stuffing
Some of the skills used in this pattern are chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, triple/treble crochet, magic ring, increase, decrease and finish off.
Patch
Use Color A.
Round 1: 6 sc in MR. [6]
Round 2: (inc) x 6. [12]
Round 3: (sc, inc) x 6. [18]
Round 4: sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, sc. [24]
Round 5: hdc, dc, tr inc, dc, sc, sl st, sc, dc, tr inc, dc, sc x 14 . [26]
Insert eyes between rounds 3 and 4. Don’t place the backs in yet.
FO and leave a long tail for sewing.
Wings
Use Color B, make 2. Arms are not stuffed.
Round 1: 6 sc in MR. [6]

Rounds 5-6: 15 sc. [15]

Round 14: Ch 2, (5 dc, dc dec) x 6, join with sl st. [36]
FO and weave in ends. Make a pom pom or glue a pom pom on the top of the hat.
Assembly
1. Sew the arms between rounds 12 and 13 on either side of the body.
2. Sew the nose in between the eyes.
3. Sew the feet under the body, starting around round 24. It will be helpful to secure a few stitch towards the middle of feet to the body.
4. Place the hat on Zippy’s head.
